Alaska IN!
Finding quality for children
who have special needs can be extremely difficult. Through
the Alaska IN! Project, Child Care Connection works with parents
and child care providers to:
- Expand the availability of child care
for children with special needs
- Provide outreach and education to
parents of children with special needs regarding child
care options
- Increase early identification
and intervention for children with special needs
- Provide enhanced care referral services
to parents who have children with special needs
- Assist child care providers who care
for children with special needs in receiving training,
consultation, and support from community resource
Specifically, Alaska IN!
Specialists help families find child care by providing enhanced
referrals and assessing whether families are eligible for
the supplemental subsidy program. All families with children
who have special needs are eligible for enhanced referral
services. However, to be eligible for the special needs subsidy:
If a family is eligible
for the special needs subsidy, then a Child Care Connection
Alaska IN! Specialist will provide an objective assessment
of accommodations needed to care for the child. The specialist
will then assign an additional supplement rate based on the
accommodations needed for each child to assure quality child
care.
In addition, we also facilitate
training and consultation services to child care providers
who care for children with special needs. We do this by connecting
child care providers to other resources in the community and
by linking them with opportunities for specialized training
that may be available in their community.
